We made it to Las Vegas!
A look into Sunday by Brittany Hynes:
We arrived yesterday afternoon around 3:00 PM. The drive went really well up until the last half hour or so when everyone started to get a little anxious! We took a tour of the Green Valley Methodist Church our home away from home until Friday morning. Then we got settled in and relaxed for a little bit. Matthew and Nick started setting up for our worship and were practicing for quite a while until dinner. Once we got all the students inside from free time, we sat down to what was actually an awesome dinner of spaghetti and garlic bread! After cleaning up we had about 20 minutes of personal time and then were instructed to bring our journals and bibles into the fellowship hall.
The evening session began! We did a few worship songs, and it was incredible! Then our group leader, Allie, talked to us about hearing God's voice. It was so incredible to hear her stories about when she has heard God. She was so direct when speaking to God when she prayed, She'd ask Him to clear distractions and said to simply wait and God would talk to you. We were then told to split up and take a while to read some verses and talk to God and try to hear him.
It was odd at first. I was thinking God doesn’t just talk to you! But, so many of the students DID hear God and those who didn’t, felt His presence. It was amazing!
We then met in the youth room and started to talk about God and just debrief. Afterwards, we had about an hour to get ready for bed. Everyone seemed just a bit different. They looked less tense and seemed more positive about what this trip would do for them.
Coming here, I thought that this trip was all about serving others, but Allie let us know right away that that wasn’t the case. This trip is more than just serving people. It’s about our relationships with God and our relationships with each other.
I know that this trip is going to change our lives, this is only the first night and it’s already great!
